Only Using Basic SEO Strategies ...

Right now, in most cities with most categories, local businesses have not properly optimized their website. In fact, at this writing (11/18/2009) I haven't ran across a single category in a city that I wouldn't be confident in our ability to get a business onto the first page and even #1, or at least in top 3. It's that wide open!

Update: Today, over a year later, I am starting to run into categories in metropolitan cities that are going to be very difficult to get a businesses website onto even the first page of Google let alone in the top 3.

Okay, having said this, what you need to be careful of is relying solely on basic SEO strategies to get onto the first page. Most of the courses out on the Internet and SEO specialist only know and use basic SEO strategies which is why most categories in the cities is so wide open. While using basic techniques have worked up to this point, those days are about to end!

Believe me, when other businesses in your category aren't optimizing their website or aren't doing it thoroughly it's easy to get you onto the top 10 or even #1. The problem is when the other business start using our advanced optimization strategies it'll will push you out of the way within 30 to 90 days! If you're going to do this, do it right!

On a side note, the high majority of SEO services and products on the market never even get into, address or teach the advanced strategies. So even if your competitors have optimized their website the likelihood of them doing it thoroughly is slim giving you the ability to move right past them unless they purchased our advanced SEO Package!

Optimizing For The Wrong Keywords ...

Another thing to be aware of is SEO specialist who optimizing your website with the wrong keywords just so they can say they got you onto the first page.

A keyword is how people search for a business. For example, if I was looking for a dentist I'd type into the search box on the search engine "dentist spokane".

What a number of inexperienced people who don't know the advanced techniques necessary to get their clients websites onto the first page for the main keyword searches are doing is optimizing the website for keyword searches people just don't use. Using the dentist example again, they may optimize the website for something like, "fill cavity by dental specialist in spokane wa", or "need cavity filled sore tooth spokane wa".

NOBODY searches for a dentist using those keywords! If nobody (or very few people) search for businesses like yours with your websites optimized keywords, while the SEO specialist can gloat about getting you onto the first page, you're not going to be making any money! Optimizing for the right keywords is very important! You can even say it's foundational because it is!

This is not to be confused with optimizing for "other pertinent searches" specific to your industry or for what we call in the SEO industry as "long tails" which are longer keyword phrases that are used to find your business. Long Tail keywords will have less searches than the primary keyword search and play a key role in optimizing a website.

Search Engines Are Getting Smarter So Don't Use Unethical or "Black Hat" SEO Strategies ...

Google released their latest version of the algorithm they use to determine website rankings December 2009. It's such a major enhancement to their search engine algorithm they actually gave it a name ... "Caffeine Google".

What people need to understand is the search engines get smarter and smarter by the day. There are SEO strategies people used a year ago that don't work today, or are causing the site to be drop completely from the Search Engine Results page because of using unethical practices.

For example, article marketing has been a strategy people have used for years. They'd write an article and then submit it to many article directories with backlinks to their website. The problem is Google can now establish what are duplicate articles and drops that link which creates a new problem for that site because now they have a broken backlink.

In addition, if they have many duplicate articles linking back to them Google could "sandbox" the site which means it's indexed but won't be found when searching for it by keywords.

The bottom line is, you want to do your optimization ethically and exactly how Google wants it done. If you try to circumvent the system or use unethical practices like stuffing, spamming keywords or duplicate content linking like with article marketing, you will eventually get caught and you'll be dropped from the search engine and put in the dreaded "sandbox".
